The Isle of Wight’s little gem is just 40 minutes away from Southampton or Portsmouth by fast ferry and celebrated its centenary in 2009. This excellent parkland course boasts some of the finest greens on the island and is located on the edge of Cowes with fantastic views over the Solent.
Although nine holes, the course with alternate tees presents a challenging 18 hole test which many golfers have underestimated at their peril. Even though it is on the edge of Cowes and surrounded by houses or the High School, the course is an oasis of peace and quiet occasionally interrupted by the antics of red squirrels and a variety of other wild life, from pheasants to foxes and the occasional hawk.

The 9 Hole Course, with a good selection of holes, provides a real challenge to golfers of all abilities. It was designed by Hamilton Stutt, a local golf course Architect, famous for designing exciting courses across the world that make the most of the natural terrain. Re-designed in the 1970's, the course has matured amazingly well. The course benefits from indigenous woodland across its entirety. In addition it boasts many beautiful pine trees dotted around the landscape. The view from the course at Cowes can be breath-taking with stunning vistas on a late summers evening, looking across the Solent, making you feel as though you could be anywhere in the world. The layout of the holes uses the natural topography and the course blends well into the surroundings rather than imposing upon it. Over 10 years have passed since a tree planting programme was implemented. These plantations are maturing fantastically and are readily producing a superb test of strategic parkland playability.

Emphasis on the course quality is top of the list. Consistent, smooth surfaces are paramount. This is achieved by carefully planned nutritional and aerification programmes which are implemented throughout the calendar year. Emphasis is also placed upon the environment and its’ enhancement. Woodland, habitat management and the use of as little chemical products as possible all contribute to the wellbeing of the local wildlife. You'll enjoy playing this course, but the challenges facing you will vary dependent upon your own standard of golf, so treat it with respect on your first few visits to ensure that you negotiate its potential pitfalls.
