    Gary Player Country Club

    • Sun City Resort
    • R556, Mankwe District
    • Rustenburg, North West Province 0316 South Africa

The Gary Player Golf Course designed by Gary Player, is an 18 hole par 72 walking course, with a 5km running trail along the course. Built in an extinct volcanic crater this fantastic golfing paradise conforms to the stringent US GA specifications and is ranked as one of the top five golf courses in South Africa. It is also home to the Nedbank Golf Challenge.

When construction of the Sun City Resort began in 1978, the decision was taken to build a golf course that would rival the best in the world. Today, in spite of stiff competition, the Gary Player Country Club is deservedly ranked as the number one South African golf course. The Gary Player Country Club has a fully equipped health club and spa of an international standard, and offering a full range of beauty treatments and therapies.

The Sun City resort caters to every conceivable taste, and activities include game viewing safaris, hot air ballooning, riding the giant swells in the Valley of Waves and water sports. The Gary Player Country Club offers more sporting facilities such as 11 tennis courts, mountain biking and 2 jogging tracks around the Gary Player and Lost City courses.

The course is beautiful. The rest of the experience was poor. We had one unpleasant and unmotivated caddie, other staff members seemed entitled. The changing facilities - we had to ask for towels and the showers were low pressure and luke warm. The half way house was self serve and we were grumpily asked for our tickets on 3 occasions despite giving it at first request. The whole time it felt like everyone was trying make guests feel unworthy to be there. Really strange. At the green fees paid I would expect a far greater level of customer service and higher standards of care for players. I regularly play Serengeti which is similarly priced but their standard of customer service is a different world. On the whole it left a sour taste in the mouth - despite the undeniable beauty of the actual golf course

Everything was just perfect, but the greens haven’t had a true line and were quite slow. Guess this is the tourist green setting in order to protect the greens from misuse of Hackers ;-)

Bunkers were poor. Advertised as a walking course but players on the course with buggies?  Food at half way house very poor. Drink after golf- 2 out of 4 draft beers not available.

It was disappointing and did not meet our expectations, which were admittedly very high. The course was not as interesting as we expected and the condition of it variable. Best suited to people who enjoy playing at Disney or Las Vagas!

I have played it before and rate it highly. I could not give it more than a 9 simply because we were unable to play it because it was closed. We had, therefore, to play the Lost City course twice. This was immensely disappointing despite the excellence of Lost City and something I expected to be made aware of earlier than the day before when I checked with the course.

Beautifully manicured course but oh so overpriced. Staff not up to standard and you are lucky to get half decent caddies. Even barman admits that drinks cost you an arm and a leg. Club house changing rooms desperately need upgrade! There was no towels and no staff. Disapointing, going downhill. Managment abscent? Lost City Course so much better!!!
