The first green course to open in Riyadh was the very central Intercontinental Golf Club in 1994. Located in the heart of the city within the grounds of the hotel, the 9 holes double up to an 18 –hole 2219 yard par 56 course playing “out” off the blue tees and “in” off the white tees, a nice idea to vary the character of the holes. THE VERDICT
This is a great course for improving your short game, although perhaps not on the first visit. Time on the ‘driving” range should be spent target shooting and distance ranging to get your club choice/length of shot sorted out as there’s not enough room to really let fly. The location is great- 5 minutes away from the city centre with the Ministry of Interior spaceship looming above, but some how away from the hustle and bustle. Easy to nip to for a quick nine. The floodlit course gives you the opportunity to play in late evenings.
THE CLUB
The Clubhouse is airy and friendly with Intercontinental snacks and beverages, BBC World for the early bird businessman, well equipped pro-shop, and interesting reading on the wooden wall plagues- every boles in one is recorded here (and you’re next!) as well as the winners of the major championships held at the Club. The course is open for all levels of golfers from 6’o clock in the morning until 10’o clock in the night.
