Porthmadog has been described as one of the most enjoyable tests of seaside golf on the British Isles. And it’s not hard to see why. The course has a split personality. The front nine is really parkland (and this is where a score can be made) but it’s the back nine that makes you want to revisit as it has some super links holes. As you tee off the 2nd, the large hills beyond will stay with you whilst you go ‘out-and-back’ on the flat parkland side.

Make your score on the three par fives, as the testing 4th hole is a tough par four. The 9th is a lovely par three down the hill with the clubhouse acting as a backdrop. The course is situated in Morfa Bychan, 3 miles away from the harbour town of Porthmadog and was established in 1905 by James Braid, the genius course designer of his day. It is friendly, challenging and not to be missed its stunning views of the Cardigan Bay coastline and Snowdonia mountain range.

Not worth the £40 green fee, front 9 tee's & fairways absolutely rubbish, back 9 is better, although all the greens are very good, won't be rushing back to play again.
