However, Cancún has so much else to offer and is a great destination for all the family. Scuba diving is a particularly popular activity here, with crystal clear waters and a magnificent underwater world. History of Cancún

Whilst Cancún is nestled within Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula and surrounded by history including stunning Mayan ruins, the city itself is relatively new. The Mexican city has a brief history as the resort was specifically developed for tourism in the 70’s. When development began in 1970, the former fishing village was home to just three residents and the transformation created one of Mexico’s most significant tourist destinations. The ancient Mayan civilization had a fondness for ball games and it was clear early on in development that an excellent addition to the city would be golf courses in Cancún, Mexico. The city’s oldest golf course, Cancún Golf Club at Pok Ta Pok, was designed in 1976 and from small beginnings, Cancún quickly established itself as an incredible golfing destination.
