    Handara Golf & Resort Bali

    • Desa Pancasari, Sukasada
    • Buleleng
    • Singaraja, Bali 81162 Indonesia

Handara Golf & Resort Bali opened in 1974 as Bali's first Golf & Country Club Resort and was voted by Golf Magazine as 'One of the 50 Greatest Golf Courses in the World'. Not only is the course well-known to Indonesia and Asia, but attracts professional golfers from all over the world. This course is Bali's first and most iconic world-class golf course. This 18-hole, par 72 championship golf course was masterfully designed by five times British Open Champion Peter Thomson, Michael Wolveridge and Ronald Fream.

What makes this course so unique is it’s location in the central highlands of Bali at an altitude of 1,142 meters above sea level, making it the highest elevated golf course in Indonesia. The cool refreshing climate is a far cry from the normal expectations on Bali's hot sandy beaches and warm climate that exists on other coastal golf courses in Bali. This unique characteristic of the golf resort affords golfers the opportunity to enjoy a pleasantly comfortable round of golf in the year round coolness of the fresh mountain air which ranges from 14 to 24 Celsius.

Nestled inside the crater of an extinct volcano, the views afforded by the golf course offer lush green mountains, crater lakes and an equatorial rain forest which surrounds Bali Handara Golf & Country Club Resort. This mix of natural beauty creates amazingly scenic backdrops for tee and approach shots into the well maintained Bent Grass greens. There is also a driving range, a practice pitching area and two practice putting greens to warm up on before your round.

Aside from the world-class golf course, the Resort also offers great accommodation, and food & beverage facilities. There are five types of accommodation consisting of golf view bungalows and Villas with fireplaces, garden view cottages, and golf view deluxe and suite rooms.

All of the rooms are designed with a traditional Balinese style with free Wi-Fi Internet access, private bathrooms, adjustable wall mounted heaters (pretty useful from June - August at night), cable television, mini-bar and complimentary coffee, tea and aqua mineral water. The golf view deluxe and suite rooms are in the hotel building located next to the Clubhouse lobby. The cottages, bungalows and villas are standalone buildings located in the gardens surrounding the Clubhouse and golf course.

Guests who stay at the Resort can enjoy spectacular views across holes #1 & #18 and look out from their terrace or balcony to beautiful sunsets over Lake Buyan, the largest of three volcanic lakes in the area. For your dining pleasure the Resort offers the Kamandalu Restaurant, Golfer's Cafe and Lobby Bar and Golf View Sunset Lounge serving a variety of Indonesian, Asian and Continental cuisine as well as meeting and conference facilities that can cater from 10 to 200 persons.

For non-golfers or nature lovers, there are many local attractions located nearby that can be explored and experienced in a few hours including the Bali Treetop Adventure Park, biking, trekking or strawberry picking, the Bali Botanical Gardens at Kebun Raya Eka Karya, water sports on Lake Bratan, the Lake Bratan Temple complex, the GitGit and Munduk Waterfalls, or your can always go feed the Bedugal Monkeys.

course itself is very nice. Infrastructure is under construction/renovation at this moment. Going to the toilet / using locker room almost impossible at this moment. Restaurant inside was open and quality of the food was not bad. Course itself is very nice so in a couple of months, when their renovation is finished it will be very nice.

    Pros and Cons

NIce and cooling except for the rain in the afternoon interrupting play

Caddie was good, he gave good advice on yardages, golf , green and found my ball in the rough. But terrible in terms on player care, did not bother to bring out the umbrella at all when it started raining. Wanted to continue play despite rain coming down heavily as he seems more eager to complete the round despite no one in front or behind.

The course can be better but I accept the conditions given the circumstance. Green had quite a few dents and divots around the fairway. The fairway was okay but the shoulders grass could be a little shorter. But overall I find it acceptable. Of yes the bunkers we well kept and sand loose and raked. Good one.

Distance - transport costs is almost as much as the fee

Not much help from club to source for more reasonable transport

For the options available around Nusa Dua, Jimbaran, Sanur and Tanah Lot, this course will find it hard to attract players. You should try package transport in with the golf fee with pick up from certain fixed zones like what some tours do.

It is very hard to judge this course because it is so far away from the main part of Bali (Denpasar), it does not have the volume of people and therefor the income to maintain it properly. It would have been grand in its day but needs a lot of work. The course was good, the greens need a bit of work, the caddies were great and very good with their putting directions and ball finding..... Overall a good course but don't expect Nirwana at Tanalot.

Exotic up in the mountains. Quite challenging. Caddie was amazing and taught me a lot on the greens. Course and facilities could do with a facelift.
