Bali National Golf Club (BNGC), located in Nusa Dua, Bali – the only planned tourism complex in Indonesia), is now only a 15/20 minute drive via the recently opened Jalan Toll Bali Mandara from Ngurah Rai International. This beautiful tropical landscape now offers visitors to Bali a truly unique golfing experience with an Internationally designed and constructed championship golf course of some 7,166 yards from the back tees.

Following a complete redesign by Nelson, Haworth Goif Course Architects, and reconstructed to International standards over the past one and a half years, Bali National Golf Club has now reopened with spectacular views over the majestic backdrop of Gunung Agung and the Indian Ocean.

Your new golf journey commences amidst a lush tropical forest set on hilly parkland and then it's on into spectacularly landscaped coconut groves, before arriving at the penultimate par 3, 17th hole, where you might struggle to find find the fairway. Yes, this hole requires a precise tee shot to a magnificent island green.

The 18th then awaits, a 400 yard dogleg par 4, with the green directly in front of the clubhouse terrace, where one's pulls will be dissected by the watching audience, while they are enjoying their cocktails.

Well-appointed locker rooms, well stocked Pro Shop, Golfer's Restaurant & Terrace overlooking the 18th green, together with meeting room and lounge facilities, are all available at Bali National Golf Club.

The new building and arrival experience physically is very good but the service component is rather average. No one to guide to Proshop from entrance, no one to park the car, girls in proshop minimum smiling.

Course improvements are good though not major. The only two hole changes that were major are 17 and 18th. The change to 17 is fine giving a signature island green but the 18th hole changes ruined one of the best holes in Bali!

Also the caddies need to read the greens better as consistently they undermarked the break on holes. My caddie has worked the course for 3 years but still did not know the breaks.

I found the course both challenging and beautiful. Great views and a couple of post card holes. Greens were soft but fast and required a great caddy to read accurately. My caddy Sophia was spot on with the reads, despite my inability to get the speeds right. Her yardages were pretty good too unfortunately correct club selection lead to some going long and some coming up short. The staff at the pro shop on arrival we're welcoming and helpful, but 380,000 for some balls just to play was a bit steep.

Overall it was an enjoyable golf experience and for the quality of layout and service provided the price is justified.

I will recommend visiting Bali National to my golf mates and thanks again to my caddy Sophia who was both professional and good company.

If they would have told me that I had to buy my playing gollf balls, I would not have to wait at the course. Otherwise I would have given a 10.
