We played on July 12, 2024. We had a 7 AM tee time, which was way earlier than anyone else, but the course superintendent Helgi greeted us with a hot cup of coffee and some very interesting and useful information about the golf course. The course itself was a hidden gem. It was in excellent condition with lush fairways and nice greens. And while the scorecard may make the course look a little on the short side, the persistent wind along the coast adds teeth to make the course seem much longer. The views are phenomenal as you are surrounded by lava fields and the ocean. The front 9 plays amongst the lava rocks and provides quite a challenge as any ball not on the fairway was destined to stay in Iceland longer than me. The elevated tee boxes on several holes provided great views of the surrounding area and made club selection a challenge. The back 9 eventually heads out to the coast line highlighted by a monster of a par 5 (hole 16), which seemed to play about 700 yards into the wind. A 6 on that hole feels like a really good score. And if you like bird watching, there were many native species living along the coastal holes as well. Grindavik Golf Club was not on my list of courses to play initially, but I am glad I did and will play it every time I come back.
