River Oaks Golf Club has been carved from 800 pristine acres stretching along the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. The unique 18-hole design provides the ideal experience for visiting and local golfers. Designed by Gene Hamm and Tom Jackson, both nines were intended to challenge golfers of all skill levels. The course opened in 1987 as the 27th course built in the Myrtle Beach area. It received extensive renovations beginning in 2007 and extending into 2010 as over 4000 trees were removed to improve growing conditions with airflow and sunlight. Fox and Otter cart paths were replaced, storm drainage was improved, and many other improvements achieved amazing results. This course was one of the first along the Grand Strand to utilize Ultra Dwarf Champions Bermuda greens. and River Oaks Golf Club has become known for its consistent conditions and value-priced play.
River Oaks has a stellar reputation among local golfers and is the home of the Myrtle Beach Junior Golf Foundation. It promotes the “juniors play free” initiative and is proud of its reputation as the “fun” course in the area. River Oaks hosts for over 25 notable events annually and strives continually to give back to the community that has supported its longevity.
